Phasing Our Return to Campus

As the state’s land-grant and space-grant university, and as a designated Minority-Serving and Hispanic-Serving Institution, the New Mexico State University system fosters learning, inquiry, diversity and inclusion, social mobility, and service to the broader community. Our mission is to serve the diverse needs of the state through comprehensive programs of education, research, extension and outreach, and public service. In the face of an ever-changing COVID-19 landscape, we add to that mission protecting the health and safety of our students, our employees, our local communities, and our state as we serve our land-grant mission.

It is critical to the success of NMSU in these times that everyone understands the facts about COVID-19 and the role that every student, faculty, staff, and community member plays in protecting the health and safety of our NMSU community. To aid that understanding, we’ve documented a many aspects of our planning at this website.

Please take time to explore NMSU READY: A systemwide return-to-campus plan. This is a living document, informed by the plans from our colleges and service units, and it is filled with links to detailed protocols created by our knowledgeable professional and based on advice from experts from the CDC, NMDOH, and professional organizations. Please submit questions or ideas about the plan – or anything else that’s on your mind as you prepare for the return to campus.

We’ll keep you informed in future NMSU Ready newsletters about updates to the plan as they are added.

New Mexico has worked hard to flatten the curve of COVID-19 infection, but the course of COVID-19 remains unknown. Thus, our plans are subject to changing guidelines from the CDC, New Mexico Department of Health, and our own NMSU experts.
