We are prepared for the return to campus life and your safety is our top priority. NMSU has been consulting experts – and continues to do so – about enhanced cleaning, minimizing contact with staff, and improving the safety of services such as housing, dining, retail, advising, financial aid support, and more.

Our Return to Campus Life

We plan to be open and operational this fall, with dedicated faculty and staff preparing strategies and plans that will follow CDC recommendations and meet safety guidelines across academics, campus activities, and athletics.

What you need to know now:

  • Classes begin August 19 and there are  no changes are planned to the previously published academic calendar for the NMSU System.  Any changes on individual campuses will be decided and communicated by local campus presidents. 

  • Fall courses will be held on campus, with a majority of courses in a hybrid in-class/online format. Fully online courses  are available  for those students who cannot or choose not to return to campus Fall 2020.

  • Anyone entering a public space on campus – indoors or outdoors – must wear a face covering at all times,maintain social distancing by staying 6 feet apart, and follow other guidelines provided by the New Mexico Department of Health and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. 

  • Students living on  campus will begin moving in on Aug. 14. Move-in for each resident will be by scheduled appointment allow for social distancing and to limit the number of people in a facility at any given time.

  • Classroom spaces have been reconfigured to allow for safe social distancing.

  • We are prepared to adapt and change as we learn more about the COVID-19 virus and ready respond if there is a surge in COVID-19 casesNMSU is ready to pivot to fully online course delivery and stay-at-home restrictions based on expert guidance, even if a statewide school and business closure order has not been reinstated.

As a part of our preparations for the Fall 2020 semester, we will be introducing information to help you learn how to navigate our new normal. Students, faculty and staff can expect to learn more about personal responsibility and how to use social distancing, courtesy face coverings, and other tools to keep yourself and fellow Aggies safe and healthy.
